Stereo Record Player
Why does the radio come through on my stereo when I want to play a record?

I have my record player, an iPod dock, and my TV going through the same stereo. Sometimes when I switch to a record (which is on aux 1) I can hear the radio playing at the same time, which definitely sucks in a very large way. I changed the record player to aux 2, but I'm having the same problem. I don't want to hear reggae from the college radio station blasting through my Thriller. Please help?

Im assuming your hearing a random radio station in the background not actually from the tuner in your system at the same time. You then probably have a unshielded cable somewhere in the chain. It can be the phono cable or cartridge leads. All you need is to replace the phono cable or cartridge leads with a low resistance shielded cable. If it is a din type connector you will probably have to buy one online or special order it from your local hi-end audio dealer. Or you may have the cables crossing a AC Power Cord witch could also create this issue.

Unshielded cables can pickup RF and other electrical noises.

Or if you have Vacuum Tubes somewhere in the chain those can also pick up RF
