Ford F-250 startup problems?

Well I have a 1986 Ford F-250 and have problems with getting started. 4barrel has a 5.8 V8 engine and gearbox 4X4 with automatic transmission. When you turn the engine during startup makes a loud noise that engadging regulation. But the wheel does engadge with the starter. So that makes the transmission shift starter Just turn the wheel and not mesh with the starter. But when he starts the engine by hand, a block from the square and you can start the truck. I was told that the teeth on the plate in May of flat flex mesh seen and not with the starter. I therefore today taken the starter and looked and there was nothing wrong with the starter.
